Theiss an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) Company has been awarded AU$60 million tunnelling contract by Chevron's Wheatstone project, Western Australia.
Thiess announced that it would build a tunnel of 1.2 km in length, which passess under the ocean connecting two offshore gas reserves with the Wheatstone's LNG plant. The 1.2 km long microtunnel will have a diameter of 2.5m which will accomodate a 1.1m dia pipe line to transport gas from Wheatstone and Lago reserves.
The engineering, procurement and construction of the tunnel boring machine shaft, jacking pipes and tunnel boring machine retrieval pit will commence shortly, but the onsite construction will only start by beginning of 2013, shortly after the cyclone season.
The project also create a lot of employment directly and indirectly involving lot of suppliers and sub contractors
